چکیده

The early extraction method of measuring capillary permeability was evaluated with theoretical models of capillaries and organs. The organs consisted of feeder lines and a capillary bed that was either homogeneous or heterogeneous with respect to capillary length or flow. The capillary permeability of the model organ determined by the early extraction method was compared with the actual permeability of the capillaries from which the organ was constructed. The main results of this analysis are: (1) If all the capillaries are identical and if the extravascular volume of distribution of the diffusible indicator is at least three times as large as the capillary volume, then the early extraction method provides a satisfactory measure of the capillary permeability. (2) If the capillaries are identical but the extravascular volume is about the same size as the capillary volume, tJien the early extraction method can lead to a qualitative underestimate of the permeability, namely assigning a significant diffusion limitation to a substance which is actually flow limited. (3) If the capillaries are not identical, either through differences of flow or length, then the early extraction method can again lead to the assignment of a significant diffusion limitation to a substance which is actually flow limited. An Efficient Method for Determining Capillary Pressure and Relative Permeability Curves from Spontaneous Imbibition Data

In this paper, a very efficient method, called single matrix block analyzer (SMBA), has been developed to determine relative permeability and capillary pressure curves from spontaneous imbibition (SI) data. SMBA mimics realistically the SI tests by appropriate boundary conditions modeling. In the proposed method, a cuboid with an identical core plug height is considered. The equal dimensions of...

Positive Coupling Effect in Gas Condensate Flow Capillary Number Versus Weber Number

Positive coupling effect in gas condensate reservoirs is assessed through a pure theoretical approach. A combination of linear stability analysis and long bubble approximation is applied to describe gas condensate coupled flow and relative permeability, thereof. The role of capillary number in gas condensate flow is clearly expressed through closed formula for relative permeability. While the m...

A Biomechanical Approach for the Study of Deformation of Red Cells in Narrow Capillaries

This model focuses on the behavior of capillary-tissue fluid exchange system when the diameter of the capillary is less than that of red cell. In vivo and in vitro observations indicate that the width of the gap between the red cell and the vessel wall is generally small compared to the radius of the capillary for a single file flow of red cell in narrow vessel, particularly if the vessel diame...

Capillary Effects on Surface Enhancement in a Non-Homogeneous Fibrous Porous Medium

The evaluation of a free fluid surface in a porous medium has several mathematical applications that are important in industries using molds, particularly in the fluid injection process. The vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process is a promising technology in the primary composite industry. An accurate computational simulation of the VARTM process would be a cost-effective tool i...
